Design Solution

Achieve a minimalist feel

The neutral tones used throughout the kitchen help to give the illusion of spaciousness in a small space.  Flush flat panels and the absences of handles also helps to keep the lines clean and uncluttered.  Routered drainer lines were also used to achieve an uncluttered feel on the front return of the Benchtop.  However the eye is drawn to the feature timber paneling used under the bench but again clean lines are king.

Trim kits were used for the coffee machine and microwave to make the appliances seamlessly integrate into the design and overall minimalist feel protruded by the space.

Spacious open plan entertainer’s kitchen

The clients are keen chief’s and entertain family and friends regularly therefore the kitchen needed to be functional with room for informal seating so guest can talk freely to the chef during food preparation and an easy transition from the kitchen to other entertaining areas such as balcony and dining.  This was achieved by creating a seamless single level return

Kitchen colour tones to compliment the renewed décor

The neutral tones used in the kitchen were selected to compliment the natural earthy colours used throughout the recently renovated adjacent rooms of the apartment.  The stainless steel appliances and kickboards reflect the light and illuminate the fresh feeling expressed by stone inspired colour palette.

Easy access Storage

An integrated waste system is incorporated under the sink for all recycling requirements.  All drawers and floor cabinet doors can be touch opened with elbows or knees; this provides greater convenience when a cook has their hands full.
Emphasis on lighting

Down lights were recessed into the bulkhead to illuminate the visable workspaces.  The bulkhead was extended over the island to accommodate Pendant lights this enables more direct task lighting when required and for entertaining. Accent lighting was used to emphasis the bar back feature panel low voltage halogen down lights were mounted to the underside of the stone bench top.

As this was a renovation for an apartment we had to consider that services remain in existing positions.  Body corporate regulations had to be considerate.  It was important to minimize disruptions and noise to others who resided within the complex.

Entry to the apartment had to be considered

As you first enter the unit the front doorway opened straight on the main living areas.  To stop this the island bench was extended passed the doorway, this allowed for the clients to have a more designated greeting point for visitors. The wall next to the fridge was also extended so the fridge could be concealed from view as you entered the home.

Conceal small appliances from view

An appliance cabinet was implemented via being recessed into the room behind the kitchen wall.  Uncluttered bench space is achieved while creating a practical storage solution for small appliances that are used daily.  The appliance cabinet was seamlessly incorporated to match the glass splash back which again encourages a minimalist look.
